The Housing Stimulus Package
Will this is a monumental piece of legislation directly affect the housing markets? Here is a possible example.

Home Buyers: Part of the stimulus package gives first-time home buyers who purchase homes in 2009 an extra $8,000 tax credit. "A first time home buyer" is defined as someone who has not owned a home for the past three years. Combined with the fact that foreclosure filings during January decreased 10% from December 2008 and that some sales in December of 2008 rose 6.5%, we will see prices at the lower end of the price spectrum stabilize. Many of the good deals could be bought up in the next few months and we should see a price increase on homes for sale in December of 2009 as those who wait will rush to buy new homes before the $8,000 credit is gone.

This could help to eliminate some of the problem home loans, short sales and foreclosures in Florida that have been dragging down the home prices.

About six months from now we could start to see homes for sale in Florida start to rise in price on smaller homes and by the end of the year, prices could stabilize in large mid-priced homes for sale. The higher end homes could be the last to stabilize depending on such items as the stock market and overall economic position.
