Centrally located on the Space Coast is Brevard County’s idyllic master planned community, Viera—complete with a local’s success story. Touting a Slovak name that means faith, Viera is the town where Mr. Duda of A. Duda & Sons, Inc. started the small celery farm that flourished into one of the largest and most respected family-owned agricultural ventures in the world. As of 2000, Viera’s population was approximately at 19,083 and continues to rise, as it’s one of the newest communities in the area, and packed with suburban appeal.
Viera houses many of the county’s government buildings, as well as a plethora of shopping centers. Their most notable and charming retail plaza is Avenue Viera. Set in the midst of luxuriant landscaping and lulling fountains, residents are sure to find whatever they need from household items, to shoes and apparel, to fabulous eateries. Sports fans will have a ball discovering all that Viera has to offer. Catch a game at the Space Coast Stadium, where the Brevard County Manatees call home. Pick up some snacks at the concession stand and enjoy a classic American pastime. Fun Fact: The Washington Nationals train at the Space Coast Stadium in the spring. The area is also home to the Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands, which is highly visited by nature-lovers, bird enthusiasts, eco-tourists, and photographers every year. The wildlife you’ll observe will amaze you. It truly is a sight. There’s also the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and Brevard Zoo.
The city of Viera passionately promotes healthy living-- you’ll find several parks and trails to utilize for bicycling, jogging, rollerblading, and so on. Athletes can take advantage of Viera’s enormous regional park. Spanning125-acres, the regional park is comprised of five baseball fields, two softball fields, eight soccer fields, an 18,000 sq. ft community center/gymnasium, two outdoor basketball courts, three playgrounds, and four tennis courts. There is so much to do here. For the golfers, the Duran Golf Club and Viera East Golf Course offer beautiful and skill-testing courses.
